Troubleshooting the "E01" error
Troubleshooting guide for the E01 error that can be found on Ascaso Home machines.
Explanation of the issue: "E01" indicates a "dose control error" meaning the machine is running into too much resistance trying to send water through the group head.
** Section 1: If the machine is brand new, it may need some extra elbow grease getting the vibratory pump successfully primed.**
Step 1: After confirming the freshwater reservoir is full and the inlet tube(s) are fully submerged, press and hold the brew switch continuously for 30 seconds or until "E.01" pops up on the display.
Step 2: Repeat this process 6 times.
Step 3: If Step 1/2 doesn't help, remove the particulate filter on the coffee thermoblock's inlet tube, and use a pipette or turkey baster to force water into this tube while the pump is running.
Step 4: If further assistance is needed regarding a new machine presenting "E.01", please connect with the machine retailer or Ascaso USA directly with the order number and the troubleshooting steps taken so further assistance can be provided to help correct this issue.
** Section 2: If the machine has been in use for a month or longer **
Part a) : If E01 pops up when pulling a shot: The first area to examine (or rule out) is the portafilter itself: Is the tamp potentially too firm (above 30lbs of pressure), or is the coffee basket potentially too full (try a smaller input dose of ground coffee)? Are the holes in the portafilter basket clogged or the portafilter spout?
Part b) : If "E01" pops up when the portafilter is not in place in the group head:
Please try backflushing the machine WITHOUT additional cleaning powder (water only) to see if something just needs to be knocked loose and create a better pathway for the water to flow.
Part c) : If the machine has not been descaled in the last 4 weeks, this is also one of the logical next steps for addressing "E01". With a persistent "E01", please ensure that you run at least two full tanks of clean water through the machine to rinse after descaling. Even if you are not using hard water, the descaling process helps clean out any potential mineral or debris buildup, and extra rinsing will help ensure that no small chunks of descaling powder are left in the system. It is imperative to use a citric acid based cleaner such as Dezcal for descaling -
Part d) : Another part which can get clogged and potentially fail is the machine's flowmeter (the part which controls the volume of water being dispensed at the grouphead). If descaling and the other troubleshooting factors don't help resolve the E01 issue, the flowmeter may be due for replacement.
The flowmeter is relatively quick and easy to replace on your own (SKU: i2560)
